Frankie goes to the Ace
Coincidence is a strange beast....
The Ace Cafe in North London was hosting a MOPAR and American cruise-in event, followed by a Rock'n'Roll evening. Suzanne decided it would be a good place to take Frankie (1955 Ford Fairlane). Whilst I like cars and bikes and love Rock'n'Roll, I was a bit unsure about how well Broxie would fair amongst the petrol heads and die-hard rockers.
The decision was made and there was no way I was going to be able to take the easy route out. So, after a healthy smattering of powder and paint, I slipped into some cute jeans and packed a dress for the evening.
After a diversion to show Frankie off to my sister and the obligatory mini cruise, we crawled along the A406 to the Ace Cafe. Frankie struggled a bit in the heavy traffic, as she has a tendency to overheat. I suspect the water pump might be rusted out.
We pulled in and parked next to a 7.5 Litre Lincoln in a prime position right by the building. The owner of the Lincoln, instantly recognised Frankie. He knew the previous owner and the two cars had been parked up next to each other at another event. We exchanged details, with a view to possibly hooking up at a future event.
Suzanne and I ordered some food and took a seat at a table. A couple from Sweden joined us and we soon struck up conversation. The couple were quite taken with Frankie, the said they have seen a few in Sweden, but that it would be a rare thing to see the "Crown Victoria" there. Most of the ones they see are the "Bubble Top" model.
The lady of the couple was also pleased to meet Broxie (Transgendered people apparently not being the norm in Sweden)! We had a nice chat over our meals, before posing for their holiday snaps. We also exchanged email address so that we can remain in contact when they return home.
About 8pm the music started for the Rock'n'Roll evening. Broxie headed off to the dance area in front of the stage. By now, the idea of bothering to slip into a dress had lost its appeal. The only thought on my mind was to bop until I dropped.
It was not long before a large crowd gathered to show how well they could jive. They all seemed to know each other well, a fact that was born out, when one of their group came over at the end of the evening and chatted to us. Being a gentleman, he also apologised for not asking either of us two ladies for a dance, which I thought was sweet and kind of him.
